It contains a vast collection of Pharonic antiquities in its 100 exhibition rooms, notably the treasures of Tutankhamen. If you get a museum catalogue, it is not too difficult to identify the objects. By 2200 BC, after five centuries of prosperity and political stability, the Old Kingdom was in trouble as the priestly caste gained power and autonomy. But Egypt rose again to glory after 2040 BC and again in the New Kingdom of Akhenaton, Tutankhamen, and Ramses II. The picture shows the Golden Mask of Tutankhamen found in the young kings’ undisturbed tomb in the Valley of the Kings. The mask is displayed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo
